Update 14: Floor Screed

Now that the underfloor heating has been installed a floor screed is laid in order to protect the pipework. The pressure in the heating system is left on at this time.

The floor screed is a cementitious material made from a 1:3 ratio of cement to sharp sand. There are two routes that self-builders can select; opting for a ready mixed factory screed or a site mixed screed. The difference between the two is predominantly down to cost.

We have chosen a ready mixed screed which offers additional quality assurance and is a more consistent material.

The screed is piled up across the floor area. This is the entrance hall of the house, you can see the front door which is all covered up.

The screed is levelled and smoothed, creating a smooth finish.

The screed will be allowed to dry fully before any other work continues internally. In the meantime, work can carry on externally ready for the rendering.
